PAT MCGRATH IS THE FIRST MAKEUP ARTIST TO BE NAMED ‘DAMEHOOD’

Announcing the list of honors for the new year in the last days of 2020, Queen II. Elizabeth crowned makeup artist Pat McGrath with the title ‘DBE’ or ‘Dame of the British Empire’. Pat McGrath, the first make-up artist to be crowned with the rank of ‘Damehood’, equivalent to a knighthood in England, is honored for “For his Services in Diversity, Fashion and Pleasure”.

McGrath, who was honored with the title of ‘MBE’ or ‘Member of the Order of the British Empire’ in 2014, reached another rank after 6 years! “I am grateful to be awarded ‘Damehood’ in the Queen’s New Year’s Eve 2021 Hall of Fame,” explains Pat McGrath, “I am delighted and proud to have been deemed worthy of such an impeccable honor. My mother’s loveliness and interest in fashion fueled my passion for this department, and I feel privileged to have had the chance to work with incredible people throughout my career,” he added.

Sharing the news on her Instagram account, McGrath thanked her mother, family, friends and designers she worked with throughout her career. McGrath, who founded her own beauty brand Pat McGrath Labs in 2015, designs the make-up styles for fashion shows and shapes the make-up choices of the stars. “I want to thank all the perfect people in my life – my mother, Jean McGrath, my family, friends, co-workers and my darling sweethearts, everyone who contributed to this award,” McGrath said. I would not have thought that Elizabeth would recognize me as one of the recipients of this honor, both in the past and now. When I first founded my brand, Pat McGrath Labs, I designed it for personality and for people to express themselves. I dedicate this honor to makeup artists everywhere, I admire each and every one of you. Never give up on your dreams – with hard work, creativity and perseverance you can achieve anything.”
